More Reliable Bulk Downloads with Smart ZIP Archives
The Problem with Bulk Downloads
Modern browsers protect users from pages that trigger too many downloads from a single click. This is a useful safety feature, but it can also affect legitimate workflows like exporting many OCR results at once.
In practice, some browsers may allow the first several files and then quietly block the rest. That is a bad experience: it looks like the export finished, but part of the selection may be missing from your downloads folder.
What Changed
1-5 selected files
These continue to download as individual files. If you select a few TXT, Markdown, Word, CSV, or Excel results, the behavior remains familiar and lightweight.
6 or more selected files
Larger batches are automatically packaged into a ZIP archive. The browser only needs to download one file, which avoids the multi-download limits that can interrupt large exports.
You do not need to change anything in your workflow. Use the same history page buttons as before. FreeOCR.AI now chooses the safest download method based on how many valid results are selected.
Built for Reliability
No silent missing files
Large exports now use one ZIP download instead of many browser-triggered downloads.
Duplicate names are handled safely
If multiple results produce the same filename, ZIP entries are renamed with suffixes like -2 and -3 instead of overwriting each other.
Works across output formats
The update applies to OCR TXT, Markdown, Word, extraction CSV and Excel, and table CSV and Excel history exports.
A Small Change That Protects Your Workflow
This update is intentionally practical. We did not want every selection to become a ZIP file, because downloading two or three files individually is still faster and more direct. We also did not want to wait until browser limits are reached, because that creates uncertainty.
The result is a balanced rule: small batches stay simple, while larger batches become dependable archives. It is one of those changes you should not have to think about, but it makes the history page safer for real production work.
