Terms of Service
Last updated: September 11, 2026
Please read these Terms of Service carefully before using FreeOCR.AI. By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
1. Definitions
- FreeOCR.AI, we, us, or our means Hantian Pang, an individual trading under the name FreeOCR.AI, in Songjiang District, Shanghai 201602, People's Republic of China.
- Service means the FreeOCR.AI website, OCR features, API platform, API endpoints, developer dashboard, documentation, and related services available at https://freeocr.ai.
- Free Tier means features available without account registration or paid subscription.
- Workspace means the account-based workspace for batch processing and saved history, using available account credits.
- Subscription means a recurring paid plan that provides account credits for each billing period.
- Account Credits means permanent credits purchased through one-time top-ups, subscription credits, or promotional credits. Account Credits work across standard online tools, the workspace, and FreeOCR Desktop. They are separate from API Credits.
- API Platform means our developer-facing OCR API, API keys, API credits, usage dashboard, and related documentation.
- API Key means a credential issued through the API Platform to authenticate API requests.
- API Credits means prepaid usage units used to access API endpoints. API Credits are not cash, stored value, or a bank account balance.
- Merchant of Record means Paddle, the authorized reseller that handles checkout, payments, subscription management, invoicing, taxes, refunds, and related buyer support.
- You means the individual or legal entity using the Service.
2. Eligibility and Account
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, to purchase a Subscription. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality and security of your account credentials.
You agree to provide accurate account information and to promptly update it if it changes.
3. Service Tiers
Free Tier: We provide limited OCR features at no cost. Free Tier users do not need to create an account to use basic functionality.
Workspace and Desktop: Batch processing in the workspace and processing in FreeOCR Desktop require account login and sufficient Account Credits. Both permanent and subscription credits can be used; a Subscription is not required. Sign in with the same account to use your credits across standard online tools, the workspace, and Desktop.
API Platform: Developer API features require an account, one or more API Keys, and sufficient API Credits unless a separate written agreement states otherwise.
4. Subscription, Billing, and Auto-Renewal
Permanent Account Credits are purchased through one-time top-ups, do not expire, and do not renew automatically. Subscription credits reset at the end of each billing period and do not roll over. When both are available, subscription credits are used first. Developer API usage is billed separately and does not use Account Credits.
Subscriptions are billed on a recurring basis (for example, monthly or yearly, depending on the plan selected at checkout). By purchasing a Subscription, you authorize recurring charges to your selected payment method until canceled.
Your Subscription will automatically renew at the end of each billing cycle unless canceled before the next renewal date.
Pricing, billing cycle, currency, and taxes (if applicable) are shown during checkout and in your billing records.
We may update subscription prices from time to time. Any changes will apply to future billing periods and will not retroactively change amounts already paid.
API Credits may be purchased as one-time top-ups. API usage is deducted based on the applicable endpoint, format, and pricing shown on our pricing page, API dashboard, or API documentation at the time of use.
API Credits do not expire unless stated otherwise, but they have no cash value, are non-transferable, and may not be resold, exchanged, or redeemed for money except as expressly allowed by our Refund Policy or required by law.
5. Cancellation
You may cancel your Subscription at any time through your account billing settings or by contacting support at admin@freeocr.ai.
Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current paid billing period unless otherwise required by applicable law. Canceling a Subscription stops future renewals, but does not itself guarantee a refund. Refund eligibility is governed by our Refund Policy.
6. Payment Processing and Merchant of Record
Paddle acts as the Merchant of Record and authorized reseller for transactions made directly through the FreeOCR.AI website.
Paddle handles your order and may apply its own buyer terms, refund policy, and privacy notice to the transaction.
We do not store full payment card numbers on our servers. Billing and payment data are handled by the Merchant of Record according to their security and compliance standards.
7. Refunds
Refund requests are handled according to our Refund Policy. In case of conflict between this section and the Refund Policy, the Refund Policy controls for refund eligibility and calculation.
8. API Keys, Credits, and Rate Limits
You are responsible for keeping API Keys confidential and secure. Do not publish API Keys in client-side code, public repositories, logs, screenshots, support tickets, or other places where unauthorized parties may access them.
Requests made with your API Keys are treated as authorized by you, and you are responsible for usage, charges, and activity associated with those keys unless caused by our security failure.
We may apply and enforce rate limits, quota limits, concurrency limits, abuse controls, and other technical restrictions. Default limits may be changed at any time to protect service reliability, prevent abuse, or comply with legal or provider requirements.
If an API request fails due to an internal processing error, we may automatically return the corresponding API Credits to your account. Credit restoration is not a cash refund and does not guarantee compensation for downtime, failed integrations, lost data, or lost business.
FreeOCR.AI does not intentionally retain direct API document payloads or outputs after processing and does not use them for advertising, analytics, or training or improving AI models. Infrastructure and AI inference providers may process them only as necessary to provide, secure, diagnose, maintain, or improve the reliability of their services under their applicable terms. We do not authorize those providers to use direct API content to train AI models. Customer support does not include review of live API content; use only redacted, anonymized, or synthetic examples when requesting troubleshooting assistance. Additional API data-processing terms are set out in the Privacy Policy and, where applicable, the Data Processing Addendum.
9. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for unlawful, fraudulent, or abusive purposes.
- Upload or process content you do not have rights to use or that violates applicable law.
- Attempt to interfere with, disrupt, or reverse engineer the Service.
- Circumvent usage limits, access controls, or payment requirements.
- Abuse, overload, benchmark at excessive scale, scrape, or stress test the Service without our prior written permission.
- Resell, sublicense, or expose the API as a competing OCR or data extraction API without our prior written permission.
- Upload or process Special Category Data, protected health information, payment card data, or other regulated or highly sensitive data through the direct API.
The Service is not designed or approved for that processing and is not represented as HIPAA-compliant, PCI DSS-compliant, or as satisfying any other specialized regulatory framework. If you submit such data despite this prohibition, you breach these Terms and remain responsible, to the maximum extent permitted by law, for the lawfulness of the data and the consequences arising from your submission.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, FreeOCR.AI is not responsible for unauthorized access, loss, disclosure, or other compromise of sensitive data resulting from your instructions, content, credentials, security configuration, failure to follow required safeguards, or third-party systems outside our reasonable control. This does not exclude responsibility that cannot lawfully be excluded or liability resulting from our failure to comply with mandatory data-protection obligations.
10. Intellectual Property
The Service, including its software, design, branding, and related materials, is owned by or licensed to FreeOCR.AI and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any ownership rights in our Service.
11. Service Availability, API Changes, and No SLA
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, with or without notice. We are not liable for unavailability, interruptions, delays, or changes to features, except as required by law.
We may add, change, deprecate, or remove API endpoints, response formats, models, pricing, rate limits, documentation, or features. Unless we enter into a separate written agreement with you, uptime statements, historical availability figures, and performance claims are informational only and do not create a service level agreement or service credit obligation.
12. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service immediately if you materially breach these Terms, engage in fraud, or create legal or security risk for us or other users.
Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends immediately. Sections that by nature should survive termination will survive, including payment obligations, liability limitations, and dispute terms.
13. Disclaimer of Warranties and AI Output
The Service is provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the maximum extent permitted by law.
OCR, table extraction, and AI-assisted data extraction may be inaccurate, incomplete, delayed, or unsuitable for your intended use. You are responsible for reviewing outputs before relying on them, especially for legal, medical, financial, identity, compliance, or other high-impact use cases.
14. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, FreeOCR.AI and its suppliers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or loss of profits, revenues, data, or goodwill.
Our total liability for claims relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid to us (or to our Merchant of Record on our behalf) in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to liability, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
15. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Hong Kong SAR China, excluding conflict-of-law rules. You may also have rights under mandatory consumer protection laws in your country of residence.
16. Dispute Resolution
If you have any dispute or claim, you agree to first contact us at admin@freeocr.ai so we can attempt to resolve the issue informally.
17. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will post the updated Terms on this page and update the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Service after changes become effective means you accept the revised Terms.
